Missing teeth can negatively affect the health of your smile by causing gum recession on adjacent teeth and shifting of the adjacent and opposing teeth namely. One way that we help patients with missing teeth is by means of partial dentures. Partial dentures are effective dental appliances that prevent tooth migration, restore dental functionality and allow you to smile widely and confidently. When you come in to either of our locations in Arlington or Mansfield, Texas you will be in good hands with our doctors. The Ivy Rose Family Dentistry team takes pride in a stepwise process to ensure the best fit of your partial.
What Are Partial Dentures?
Partial dentures are removable appliances that consist of synthetic teeth bonded to an acrylic gum-colored base. The base sits on a frame and is usually composed of a lightweight metal or a gum-colored acrylic. There are several different designs of partial dentures depending on your case but the majority have a clasp that connects to your natural teeth. The clasps help to keep the partial dentures in place so that they feel natural in your mouth. Partials must be removed at night to allow bacteria from accumulating on ridges. Partial dentures help you eat more confidently, speak naturally, improve your dental health and significantly enhance your smile cosmetically.
Caring For Your Dentures
Dentures are similar to natural teeth, in that, you must take care of them well. By doing so, you will increase their durability and avoid dental problems that arise from poor hygiene. However, caring for your dentures is little different. We always advise our patients to:
- Clean your partial daily. Use a wet toothbrush or antimicrobial detergent for cleaning instead of toothpastes. Most toothpastes contain abrasives that help the cleaning process, but are harmful to the dentures.
- Remove partial nightly. Do not use at nighttime.
- Handle your dentures with care. Drops to the ground or even into a sink can cause significant damage to your dentures.
